Hey, Pack 33 Family! We would like to first & foremost thank everyone who has helped volunteer with our unit this year -- you are a huge part of what makes us go & we couldn't do it without you! We would like to announce the recipients of the Annual White Oak District Awards in which there will be a virtual ceremony for them on the 9th of December to honour their service to Pack 33 & to scouting. This year we have the addition of honouring not just adult leaders but also some of the youth leaders as well! Please join me & congratulate them! Everyone is invited & encouraged to attend to come to support the adult & youth leaders getting the awards as your presence is as big a deal as the award itself so please come support these adult & youth leaders! Bonus, virtual so is easy to come (no traffic except the laundry on the floor)! When: 9th December 2020 at 6:30 pm Outstanding Unit Scouter Award (Bowline) Each Unit may nominate up to two registered adult members to be recognized for their support of the unit. This is a one time award. She has always shown incredible leadership and has been with the pack close to or about 8-9 years & a den leader for 5 of those years. She also helped transition her den from in-person to virtual. She also helped with the coordination of the food drive for Takoma Park Middle School Cluster Food Program this fall & has been a dedicated & instrumental person on the pack committee. Her family has also remained active both in leadership & scouting on the pack level & the troop level as well. Thank you Patty! Halimah "Lima" Abdullah -- She not only lead Pack 33's first lion den, she pretty much wrote the programme to be able to be handed down to the next lion leader, took the den meetings outside & got the kids creative with it & ended up still moving forward having quite a few obstacles. She also not only led the first lion den and served the pack but also ran another unit concurrently. She has gone above & beyond to make her den succeed & thought outside the box. Thank you so much, Lima! ** 2019 honourees ** Matthew Rhoads - Current Bear Leader. He currently leads our largest den, the bears, in Pack 33. He has done meetings hybrid style during covid & has kept the scout engaged. He is also an active pack committee member who helps the pack. He is always keeping the scouts creatively engaged & comes up with really fun activities for his scouts. He also has another scout in pack 23 as well. Thank you, Matt! David Bartels -- Previous Arrow of Light Den Leader -- He not only led the previous arrow of light den & at the last minute put together a great arrow of light ceremony on the fly for his den, coordinating with pack and troop leadership & did it with ease. He was also an active pack committee member always helping. The troop is lucky to have him now that he has crossed over. Thank you, David! Acorn Award This is a Youth award that recognizes a scout who is an example of what it means to follow the Scout Oath and Law in his or her daily life. Kyle Gardner, Scout Troop 33, Den Chief-- Kyle has served den chief going on 4 years with the same den by choice & given himself the title of "Den Chief for Life". He has gotten the den leadership award. He has always helped to led pack meetings during virtual scouting. Each year that Kyle has been a den chief, I have seen him grow in his leadership skills. He knows how to engage the scouts & is always willing to take the lead. He even has shown up & helped to led a joint Pack 23/33 Veterans Day Ceremony this year in person! Thank you, Kyle! Gabe Andersen, Scout Troop 33, Den Chief -- Gabe has never missed anything with his den or pack, always showed up, going above and beyond what was required as den chief, as well as earning the den chief award. He leads with a calm leadership style, always willing to help & helped the pack when we went to virtual scouting without skipping a beat. He did a video for the virtual campfire, for example, on how to make smores in your house! He helped the pack meetings go from in-person to virtual scouting with ease. Thank you, Gabe! Caedmon Peterson, Scout Troop 33, Den Chief -- Caedmon always showed up to the den meetings & pack meetings willing to help & served a year as den chief. He is expected to also get the den leadership award. He helped do a video for a pack meeting where we got the boys physically active during a virtual pack meeting to help them actively work on fitness scout requirements & they loved it. He also helped with the transition from the in-person pack meetings to virtual scouting. Thank you, Caed! Commissioner's Unit Award (“The Sheetbend”) Mark Vershell, our commissioner & Troop 33 Assistant Scoutmaster Emeritus, is also the recipient of a district award, the commissioner's unit award! He is a huge resource for both the pack and the troop. He has worked on many endeavours including OA & events during COVID. He has also been a resource & bridge between the unit, the district and council. Thank you, Mark! Thank you again to ALL the leaders, both adult leaders & youth leaders, in the pack for ALL you do!!
